In 1838 he was the N. 8th Brigade Commander of the New York State Artillery, at Buffalo, N.
His Command comprised of the counties of Allegany, Wyoming, Erie, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua. General Nelson Randall also served as a Major General in the U. This brown leather with guilt lettering and trim, hard-cover book measures 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. The front cover was personalized by the publisher, specifically for BRIGADIER GENERAL NELSON RANDALL, COM'G 8TH BRIGADE N.
Sprunk, of the Prussian Artillery service, and engraved by J. Butler of New York City. This is a very rare manual that was issued only to Generals in the U.
I was able to find two other similar copies on line, but none having this personalized cover. One is at the West Point, NY.
Military Academy's Library and the other at the University of PA. S Van Pelt Library in Philadelphia. It is in very good condition, with very light foxing, a few cover rubs and some creased fold-out engravings. The first blank page has a hand written in pencil, dedication that is mostly illegible but does contain the name Fredonia, the name of the New York town in which this estate lot was from. There is no other handwriting throughout.
The binding is tight and sturdy and there are no tears, repairs or missing pages. Twelve highly detailed photos have been posted for further description.
